about us
WHERE WE CAME FROM...

Jigoku Studios
was born from my passion for martial arts. While studying
Bujutsu many years ago, I obtained by first blade and was taught blade
smithing by my sensei.  From there my passion and skills grew. I became
very interested in traditional lacquering and the many options that it afforded.
I started doing my own research and over the years have gained many
skills in different aspects of the restoration and customisation of blades.

A little further down the track, I met Tina, we began doing small jobs for a few
private clients (more as a hobby), and from there, word spread around, and
before we knew it, we had more work than we knew what to do with, and Jigoku
Studios went from small hobby to fully fledged business.

We can now offer a large variety of services and pride ourselves on quality and traditional methods.

I handle the 'labour' part of the job, doing all of the restoration, repair and smithing work. I am in dire need
of an apprentice and have recently spoken to a couple of young men who seem to have a keen interest,
like me, who I would like to pass the information on to.

Tina handles everything else, she designs the website, imports the supplies and handles all of the office
management 'stuff'. We have to apologise here if any of these elements are 'lagging' at the moment, as
Tina currently works full-time, and we have a beautiful baby daughter as well. But she will usually attend to
your needs within 1-2 business days.

CURRENT PROJECTS...

MUSHIN:
Expected Launch 2008
We are currently engaging in a new project that will provide the Australian public with a good carbon steel,
heat treated production blade (that we have made to our specifications) at a very reasonable price, with
the option to customise the length, colour and many other options. This will prove to be a great resource
for martial artists in Australia.

AUSTNIHONTO.COM: Forum Currently Active, Website Launch 2008
In 2007 we created the Australian Nihonto Forum, which is a free forum provided for Australian Lovers of
Japanese Weapons. Further adding to this, the website that the forum is linked to will be launched with a
'blades for sale' section where people can sell their antiques on consignment, and where buyers will
receive a guarantee from Jigoku Studios. Nothing will be listed until it is checked for authenticity and faults.
We hope that this will become a great buying resource.

We hope that you enjoy our website (but also appreciate any feedback that you can give us).

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email us.

Kind regards

Cameron Appleford
