[scabbard & lacquering]
SAYA
The 'SAYA' (scabbard) is made from a single piece of wood which has been split, planed and chiseled to fit
the 'TOSHIN' (blade). It is then glued together and shaped to fit to ensure the blade is kept dry & clean.
Please Note: All handles and scabbards are constructed of Honoki unless otherwise stated or requested.

LACQUERING
We use a synthetic lacquer equivalent to Kashu. We can offer you a standard gloss or matte
lacquer in black, blue, brown, red or white. Textured or variegated lacquer is available at an additional
cost subject to your requirements.

1. The saya is chiselled to fit the shape
of the blade

5. Horn is also placed at the mouth of
the kodzuka slot as well as an
additional piece of horn used as the
kurikata (not shown). The saya is now
ready for lacquering

4. Horn koiguchi fitted

3. The koiguchi is shaped to allow for a
piece of horn to be slotted over for
extra strength. A piece of wood is fitted
over the kodzuka slot and shaped to
match the rest of the saya

2. The saya is glued, and if required a
slot for the kodzuka is carved.
